There are six internationally acknowledged sizes of pallets according to the International Organization for Standardization and pallets that conform to these ISO sizes are available at A&M Pallets as a basic logistic and storage need.

In 2002, the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) declared that they required wood packaging such as export pallets to be heat treated or fumigated to prevent insect or fungi infestations from being transmitted via wood packing materials in the course of shipping pallets sent from country to country.

At the present time, at least fourteen countries and the EU have taken such action, and the regulations differ in each case. A professional pallet provider like A&M Pallets helps you understand the regulations that apply when exporting to such countries. This is critical because if heat treated pallets are not used, the shipper may be fined and the cargo seized for destruction.

A&M Pallets follow the requirements, which were developed as a result of the IPPC treaty related to heat treated pallets. The heat treated pallets available at A&M Pallets are heated to at least 132.8 degrees Fahrenheit or 56 degrees Celsius. Before heating, wood used in pallets is also debarked so only the core wood is used to make the pallet. The heat process removes some of the moisture from the wood, making it weather-resistant and less likely to rot.

Once the drying process is complete, a seal bearing the ISPM stamp--the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measure “Guidelines for regulating wood packaging material in the international trade” (ISPM15)-- along with the originating country is imprinted onto the pallet.

Heat treated and fumigated pallets at A&M Pallets, stamped with a certification reduces the chance the shipment will be delayed in customs as they are compliant and available to ship outside the country. The ISPM-15 Standard applies to both softwood (coniferous) and hardwood (non-coniferous) packaging.

A & M Pallets also repair heat treated pallets. Pallets marked HT that are repaired are re heat treated completely along with the accreditation mark of the repairer, omitting all previous ISPM15 marks.

Choosing A&M Pallets in the Houston, Texas area with its experience in international shipping requirements, heat-treatment standards and pallet size requirements is a smart choice as the ISPM-15 Standard is ever changing and can often be confusing.
